It's More Than Just Hair - Vol II

Since the beginning of time there seems to exist a strange obsession with the hair of black women. Because it's different in a variety of ways, many feel they're free to touch it without asking permission - which, rightfully so, is rarely given since hair belongs to the individual and entering someone's personal space requires a level of trust that strangers don't share. However, that invisible barrier is broken time and time again when it comes to Bianca Belair. Despite the constant reminder given to her opponents not to touch the braided hair, they continue to do so until they're face with the consequences. After making the same mistake as all others before her and receiving the same punishment they did, Becky Lynch decided she had to have the final say...

...But received a haircut instead.

Last year, after whipping Sasha Banks at WrestleMania for trying to use her own hair against her, Bianca had to face a foe she was already familiar with. Bayley. Except this time around, Bayley wanted more. She wanted the SmackDown women's title and Bianca's demise, which meant she'd walk every mile, push every boundary, do anything to achieve it. Through their feud, it became increasingly clear that Bayley would have no problem cutting off Bianca's braid if the opportunity presented itself. Instead, she received the burning whip Sasha had already experienced as well and before they had the I Quit match that would settle their story once and for all, Bayley was side-lined due to an injury.

However, the damage had already been done. The blood had already been spilled on the water and another shark caught the smell of it. This shark was none other than Becky Lynch, the woman who returned to dethrone Bianca Belair and remained champion on RAW once she was drafted to switch brands. Becky Lynch who, through this reign full of challenging matches and competitors that took her to the edge (i.e Liv Morgan), transformed into a champion filled with hubris. From her toes to, well, the tip of her hair. Claiming no one could touch her or even reach her ankles, Becky did everything she could to dodge the rematch Bianca worked her ass off to achieve.

And when they did encounter each other, via tag team matches or targeted attacks, both women neared their breaking points on each side of the spectrum. On one of them stood Becky, who declared she'd sold her soul to the Devil because that's how far she's willing to go to remain champion, and on the other stood Bianca, who was losing her seemingly infinite patience as time passed. A couple weeks before Wrestlemania, where their match was scheduled to take place, at long last, Bianca injured Becky's throat and as soon as she was able to, Becky returned the favour. A throat for a throat.

But wasn't the real target. That had never been the real target. And before Becky got injured, Bianca had delivered her whip SEVEN times on Becky's torso, almost as if it was one for each time Bianca had warned her opponent not to touch her hair. After that, Becky promised revenge and the RAW before Wrestlemania, Becky decided it was time to cut the umbilical cord. It was time to deprive Bianca Belair of her trademark, her built in weapon, her long and exuberant braid. Pulling a pair of scissors from a bag, Becky's eyes carried a fire you could only attribute to the Devil she'd sold her soul to.

What Becky didn't take into account was the simple fact that Bianca is stronger than her, the same way she was stronger than Sasha and stronger than Bayley. Turning the story around with a KOD, Bianca Belair did to Becky Lynch what no one ever dreamt she would do: with the pair of scissors that had been used to threatened her moments prior, she sniped Becky's hair until the ring was covered in orange. More than push Bianca past her breaking point, Becky Lynch opened the door to her own downfall - just like Bayley and Sasha did. The question, right now, is what Becky will find at the bottom of the abyss... And if she'll be able to crawl back up into the light.
