The Ladder Is A Metaphor

Image
Bayley and Bianca Belair. What can be said about these two athletes that hasn't been said before? Not much, really, but whenever they square off inside a wrestling ring, they work tirelessly to ensure that we see is new. Undoubtedly in the top 3 of each others best rivals list, this talented duo is able to create a story that feels fresh and, making it seem oddly simple at times, they're able to smoothly inject depth into any match regardless of stipulation. Not many wrestlers are able to connect in such a way that they speak through the silence of their movements but, if there was a machine for it, there would be transcripts of multiple pages detailing the stories they tell.  For example, ahead of their first ever ladder match, Bayley said that the chosen stipulation was a metaphor and it was. In more ways than one.

It's A Matter of RESPECT

Image
Something unprecedented happened last night during RAW and if you were there to watch it unfold or just now tuning in, this won't be breaking news to hear but Sasha Banks and Naomi actively walked out of the building in protest regarding their participation in the main event match. Seems odd, doesn't it? Why would two of the most dedicated superstars the company has ever had decide, on their own accord, to turn their back and leave? WWE was quick to release a statement, using certain keywords (belts, unprofessional, scripted) that left everyone uncertain if this was really happening or all part of a bigger story at play and thus made to throw fans out for a loop. Whatever you believed in, the fact of the matter is that the tag team champions weren't a part of that main event match... But neither were Doudrop and Nikki ASH.

It Takes Time But All Wounds Will Heal

Image
One of the most famous paintings in the world depicts Dante's imagining of Hell (Inferno) where there are 9 circles, each designed for specific crimes and sinners. However, if we look closely at the patterns in our lives and apply the same distance Dante had to create his work, chances are that each and every one of us will notice that we, too, have been living in circles. Sometimes they overlap, sometimes one begins where another ends. By realizing this, that we've all been going around in circles, we can also understand why it seems as though history keeps repeating ourselves. And unlike hell, this isn't meant as punishment. Instead, whenever a circle re-stars, we're being offered an opportunity to make it right, change the outcome, heal a wound. That being said, I invite you to sit down and follow me through the circles that lead us to Sasha Banks and Naomi winning the tag team titles at Wrestlemania in what, to me, is a triumph story that touches me deeper than I...

It's More Than Just Hair - Vol II

Image
Since the beginning of time there seems to exist a strange obsession with the hair of black women. Because it's different in a variety of ways, many feel they're free to touch it without asking permission - which, rightfully so, is rarely given since hair belongs to the individual and entering someone's personal space requires a level of trust that strangers don't share. However, that invisible barrier is broken time and time again when it comes to Bianca Belair. Despite the constant reminder given to her opponents not to touch the braided hair, they continue to do so until they're face with the consequences. After making the same mistake as all others before her and receiving the same punishment they did, Becky Lynch decided she had to have the final say...

Shenanigans Are 24/7

Image
The Attitude Era was bloody, aggressive and, at times, so out of left field that you'd find yourself watching wide eyed because no one should be able to do something like that. Not then, and especially not now. But that Era was also a gold mine of creativity, every show and every story raising the bar for how outrageous sports entertainment could be. From pouring cement into your boss' car to fighting all over an empty mall, without forgetting the iconic milk truck, there was no limit for how far you could go. The more chaotic, the better. However, with time, things began to change and colouring outside the squared lines became less habitual. That's not to say it stopped happening all together, in fact, the PC/Thunderdome Eras brought back a little taste of it, but it wasn't enough. And that's why today we're going to talk about the 24/7 championship.

Seth Freakin' Rollins Against The World

Image
Well, well, well. If it isn't the consequences to his actions... Seth Rollins, and everything he does, seem to part the sea of wrestling fans the same way Moses did. On one side are the people who absolutely despise him with a burning passion while on the other side stand those who actively celebrate whenever he burns it down. There are very few superstars who hold this much power and lately Seth has been yielding it masterfully with his fingertips the same way he does when everyone is singing along his theme song. Whether you like him or not, one thing has to be agreed upon is this: Seth Rollins, right now, is operating on a whole other level.

How To Meet Your Makers

Image
The wrestling world varies from the real world in many, countless, different ways. One of the biggest differences is that, contrary to what everyone has learned from a very young age, you should definitely meet your heroes. Sometimes, if you're lucky enough, you'll get a chance to meet them in the same place that seeing them changed your life: the ring. And the thought can be dawning, after all, you're going to face your maker. The reason you exist, the reason you work hard every day and the desire to prove worthiness to who was once seen as a God might make for this encounter to turn over to the sour side. Inevitably, there was some fear looming over what would happen once Becky Lynch met her maker, Lita. However, the difference between their encounter and others before them was simple very simple: RESPECT.
